Packing

I leave tomorrow. In about 12 hours. And packing is a mess. How do you pack for a full month? I keep thinking of things I'll want. I kind of went on a mini-shopping spree this morning. I've lost weight and don't have much clothes that will fit me, so had to go buy things. Basically, I bought a new wardrobe. (Don't tell my husband, Carl!) It'll be nice to have more than two pairs of pants though.
Back to packing, though. I had to wash everything, so came home from shopping and lounged in my pajamas. I then spread all I wanted to take out in my front room. Then I narrowed it down. I really didn't need all those shirts, as much as I wanted them all. It's hard to think about what you want to wear for a month. I know I'm sounding vain, but I have no idea what the weather is like over there. And I freeze! I also tried to bring things that looked nice, washed well, and were comfortable. Hopefully I won't get too sick of my choices!

Next came drugs. Man, I feel like a walking pharmacy. I first had to make sure I had enough of my prescriptions. And before you shake your head and say "Tiona, you should have done that before it was the day before you left!" here's my disclaimer: I get multiple months of my prescription at a time, and so have plenty of it lying around the house. I mostly had to make sure I took enough with me and it split beforehand, as I didn't want to bring my pill-splitter with me.

That's how long I'll be gone. Crazy, huh? Took up the whole calendar. Scary when to think about it. I also had to make sure I brought over the counter medications, because I might have a harder time finding them in Spain. (Not sure if they have a FDA...) I ran to Wal-mart and got ibuprofen, excedrin, immodium, benadryl, and smaller bottles of my vitamins. I also got smaller bottles of my shampoo, conditioner, etc. and stuff to entertain me on my long flight. Of course, when I got up to check out, I realized I had left my wallet at home. Luckily, I left my cart at the customer service desk and ran home to get it.

I didn't think it would be this hard to pack. I'm trying to keep my suitcase light, but who knows how I'm doing. And I'm not looking forward to 10+ hours on a plane tomorrow...

Getting Ready

Wow...I leave on Sunday. I'm not sure if I'm ready. Actually, I know I'm not ready. I wasn't planning on going to Spain. I had originally planned on going to Mexico and study nursing. However, the drug cartels got too violent in Mexico and my trip got canceled. Luckily, the group I went through, KIIS had other opportunities for me. I switched to a program in Spain that was just studying Spanish. However, this meant moving my trip up a month.

I hope to use this blog to share my experiences in Spain. While I'm nervous, I'm also extremely excited. I have internet access there, and so should be able to update frequently. Check back often for more!
